Horse show, farmer’s market event planned

Horse lovers are invited to attend this weekend’s Morgan/Open &uot;Heartland Extravaganza&uot; shows at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds indoor arena Saturday and Sunday, Aug.

Horse lovers are invited to attend this weekend’s Morgan/Open &uot;Heartland Extravaganza&uot; shows at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds indoor arena Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 11 and 12. Saturday showing begins at 9 a.m.; Sunday it begins at 8 a.m.

The show is free of charge to spectators.

A total of 157 classes will be offered continuously over the two days, including: Halter, Driving, English, Hunter, Western Pleasure, as well as Egg and Spoon, Leadline and Costume for both Morgan and Sport Horse.

The indoor arena is located in the northwest section of the fairgrounds. Shaded bleacher seating is available.

Friday, August 10

Terry Shropshire, a jazz, blues and country musician, will

perform a free concert at Gos-Sip, 115 South Broadway, from 7

to 9 p.m.

The Pelican Breeze Pizza Cruise will leave the dock at 6

p.m.; reservations must be made by 4 p.m. by calling 377-5076.

Ken Fiscus will host a special star gazing cruise on the

Pelican Breeze from 9 p.m. to midnight. The cruise costs $10

for adults and $5 for children. For reservations, call 377-5076.

Saturday, August 11

Morgan/Open shows &uot;Heartland Extravaganza&uot; will

be held at 9 a.m. at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds indoor arena.

The Albert Lea Farmer’s Market will hold a children’s day

and sampling day from 9 a.m. until noon in honor of national

farmers market week. The event will feature free games, activities,

balloons, face painting, prizes and free food samples in the

northeast corner of the Wal-Mart parking lot. Growers will also

be selling fresh produce, baked goods, jams and jellies.

The Pelican Breeze Saturday Public Cruise departs from the

dock at Frank Hall Park at 2:00 p.m. No reservations are needed.

Breeze from 9 p.m. to midnight.

Sunday, August 12

Morgan/Open shows &uot;Heartland Extravaganza&uot; will

be held at 8 a.m. at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds indoor arena.

The Pelican Breeze will hold a special event cruise featuring

local storytellers Michael Cotter and Bev Jackson. Participants

should pack their own lunch, and can hear stories and reminisce

about the past as they cruise Albert Lea Lake.

The cruise leaves the Pelican Breeze dock at Frank Hall Park

at noon. The adult fee is $10 and children pay $5 for the one

and a half-hour cruise. Beverages and snacks are available on

the boat.

The Earl Hunt ALMA Band will perform a free concert at Edgewater

Park starting at 1:30 p.m. The concert will last until 3:30 p.m.

Comprised of area professional musician members of the Albert

Lea Musicians’ Association (ALMA), the Earl Hunt ALMA Band will

play military and circus band marches with a variety of waltzes,

polkas and pop tunes from years past.
