MENDOTA HEIGHTS – After a rough start, the United South Central volleyball team made a strong showing in the Visitation Blazer Invitational.
Coming off a big win over Fairmont in their South Central Conference opener, the Rebels fell 15-6, 15-5 to Prior Lake in the first round. They rebounded to split games with St. Agnes, then defeated Visitation and St. Anthony.
&uot;It was a disappointing loss to Prior Lake,&uot; said USC coach Rick Hotzler, whose team ran its record to 4-4. &uot;We did not play to our potential, probably due to our emotional win the night before. We played better against St. Agnes, much better against Visitation and St. Anthony. Our attacks were very aggressive and our passing was crisper and on target.&uot;
Nichole Fulton had seven kills and was 4-for-4 serving against Prior Lake. Jenny Voigt was 3-for-3 at the line.
The Rebels beat St. Agnes 15-12 in game one but lost the second 15-8. Serving without a miss were Voigt 7-for-7, Danielle Banashak 5-for-5, Bridget Satre 5-for-5, Hilary Wacholz 3-for-3. Banashak had seven kills, Fulton six. Wacholz totaled 13 set assists.

The most one-sided win was against St. Anthony, 15-1 and 15-8, as the Rebels served 10 aces.
Fulton had four aces and eight kills on 20-for-21 hitting. Wacholz was 9-for-9 serving with three aces; she had eight kills on 20-for-21 hitting. Banashak was 8-for-8 serving, Willaby 5-for-5.
