With a strong Rochester Century squad in town, it looked like it could have been another rough night for the Albert Lea High School volleyball team.

Instead, Tigers coach Gina Eppen came away with renewed hopes for the postseason.

Eppen felt her squad played well Tuesday while falling 3-0 on senior night in the ALHS gym, by scores of 15-10, 15-4, 15-8.

&uot;Century has the potential to be one of the top five seeds in the section,&uot; said Eppen. &uot;We jumped on top 7-2 in the first game &045; with all seniors on the floor. Century crept back, but I was impressed with how the kids came out and played hard. We’re turning over a new leaf going into tournaments.&uot;

The second game saw the Tigers playing too much defense, according to Eppen, but the third was similar to the first.

&uot;We gave up too much at the net on tips and free balls &045; we were too nice at the net,&uot; said Eppen. &uot;But all in all, for the most part, the girls played a nice, quick-paced game of volleyball.&uot;

The Tigers’ individual leaders: Ashley Chrz one ace, four blocks, 10 assists, three kills, seven digs; Amber Edwards one ace, one block, seven kills, three digs; Emily Thompson two blocks, four kills, seven digs; Whitney Sorenson one ace, three blocks, six kills, 10 digs; Christina Berggren two blocks, three kills, four digs; Leah Boyer 10 assists, 10 digs.

The Tigers served 87.5 percent, 42-for-48.

Albert Lea’s record fell to 3-18. Seeding is scheduled for Sunday for the section tournament, which begins Wednesday, Oct. 23.
