Images of the social catastrophes and unthinkable treatment of human life have shadowed our lives. Recent events at home and abroad have made me realize the importance of freedom and have given me a new appreciation of the life we take ever so granted in our own homeland. A bad day for some may start without a fresh cup of coffee, arriving late for a meeting or not being able to meet a deadline. When in reality this seems so trivial compared to those who are not able to have the basic needs we take for granted every day.
A new appreciation for what we do have can begin at home, when we make a sound investment in the United Way of Freeborn County. That cup of coffee or can of pop we needed to get us through the day can mean a place to go for a young child after school or it can mean job training and skill building for a challenged adult. It can mean food for a family experiencing a layoff or disability and it can mean counseling for someone experiencing a difficult time in their life. Most of all it means you can make a difference for real people, with real lives, who are looking for the kind of results only we as a community can provide.
United Way of Freeborn County gives you an opportunity to continue to make our community a better place to live. We have made 30 percent of our goal and we are looking forward to meeting the halfway point soon. When you help us reach the goal of $500,000 you help make the lives of everyone in Freeborn County that much better. Thanks to you it’s working.
