The Albert Lea Fire Explorers’ haunted house in the north horse barn at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds promises fun for young and old alike.

The haunted house features an indoor maze with strobe lights, scary music and lots of surprises, said Eric Anderson, Fire Explorers’ advisor.

Outside, there will be kids’ games, a kids’ maze with hay bales, face painting and food. There will also be a campfire.

James Melton, Fire Explorers chief, said the group had originally thought of using only part of the building. But after the group visited Spooky World in Shakopee, they got plenty of ideas and decided to go all-out.

The 20 Explorers have been working since Oct. 8 -&160;after school, nights and weekends -&160;building the haunted house, and literally logging hundreds of hours. They’ve gotten lots of donations, including a sizable one from Right Way Roofing, which lent the use of the plywood for the maze.

&uot; And the fair board has been great in letting us have this on the fairgrounds,&uot; Anderson said.

The haunted house is being held from 6-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 26 and 27, and again from 6-10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31.

The cost is $3 per person, and children 5 and under will be admitted free.

Visitors are asked to enter the fairgrounds from Richway Drive.
