ALDEN – Coach Gary Nelson and the Alden-Conger Knights already knew the Medford Tigers were a good football team.

The Knights made them better.

Alden-Conger had two punts blocked and fumbled in the red zone while losing 30-0 to Medford in the final game of the regular season at Alden Wednesday night.

&uot;We played a lot better defensively,&uot; said Nelson. &uot;We just can’t shorten up the field and expect to hold a team like Medford.&uot;

After a scoreless first quarter, Medford scored twice in the second after blocking punts.

The Knights drove inside the Tigers’ 20-yard line early in the third before fumbling.

Dominic Hayes led the Knights in rushing with 52 yards on six carries. Trevor Schuster was 4-for-8 passing for 23 yards and one interceptions.

Jesse Marshall, Alex Drescher and David Schmidt led the defense.

The Knights, 1-7, open the nine-man playoffs Tuesday, most likely with a 7 p.m. pigtail game against 1-7 Lyle/Austin Pacelli.
