Together we do achieve more.

Together we do achieve more. It seems like a simple concept, but this past week in particular showcases how a dash of enthusiasm, a drop of creativity and a heap of people can take just an ordinary campaign and spice it up with very warm and generous hearts.

This past week many campaigns started and many showed signs of wrapping up. From tricycle races in the business parking lot to fabulous incentive prizes, teams of employees are rising to the challenge and sharing generously the gift of giving to the United Way of Freeborn County. Surpassing the 20 percent mark and reaching for the halfway point is our next step. We are excited with the results to date and are anxious to see the outcomes of those campaigns just underway.

Our book incentive this year has initiated new interest. Together, the efforts of the former United Way Executive Director Marge Hamersly and our former mayor Marv Wangen produced a wonderful children’s book, &uot;Friends Fur-ever.&uot; With every increased gift of $15 over last year, an individual can provide, in their name, a book to a young child in kindergarten through second grade in Freeborn County. This is a perfect opportunity to give the gift that keeps on giving and to promote the importance of literacy. Thanks to US Bank and Alliant Energy for their financial support in producing the book.

We hope you will take advantage of ‘Retail Month’ and support the United Way of Freeborn County by stopping by our sponsoring businesses. Check the Tribune and listen to KATE Radio for details weekly on who those sponsoring businesses are.

On behalf of the United Way Board of Directors and staff, we thank everyone for their efforts to date. Without the community’s support we could not provide our 16 agencies with the funding needed to continue the programs and services so vital to a healthy community.
