Caron is accused of stabbing his girlfriend in an apartment on West Front Street on Nov. 10. The following day, two Albert Lea police officers spotted Caron hiding in a wooded area near Railroad Avenue. He attacked the police with a knife and was shot by one of the officers.

According to the criminal complaint, the two police officers and a canine officer from the Austin police department found Caron around 7 p.m. after a convenience store employee reported to the police that Caron was leaving the store.

Caron was lying in the grass holding a knife on his chest. The two ALPD officers immediately identified themselves, and told Caron to show his hands and put knife down.

Caron started lashing the knife as officers approached. Both officers had their guns drawn and pointed at Caron, but Caron moved toward one officer. He was stating words to the effect that he would not be taken alive and continued to brandish the knife.

When the officer could not back up any further because of a fallen tree limb and tree, the officer discharged two shots, one of which hit Caron’s chest. He has already been charged with two counts of assault for the stabbing.
