The freezing rain of a decade ago, which soon became known as the Halloween Megastorm of 1991, resulted in damages to trees and utility poles. Many area residents were without electrical service for a few days and both Interstate Power Co. and Freeborn-Mower Electric Cooperative crews worked overtime to install new poles and restore electricity to homes and businesses.
