Rochester John Marshall proved no problem for the Albert Lea High School wrestling team.
Northfield was a downright nuisance.
After pounding JM 54-9 in a Big Nine meet, the Tigers lost 43-23 to a veteran Northfield squad in the second half of a triangular at ALHS Friday night.
While Tigers coach Larry Goodnature was satisfied with his team’s performance in the opener, he again lamented their youth after the Northfield meet.
&uot;We got pinned in a couple spots were I was looking for wins,&uot; said Goodnature. &uot;But we’re young and we’re learning.&uot;
They were also winning a lot against JM, with victories by Josh Hansen, 103 pounds; Alex Hansen, 112; Nate Goodnature, 119; Brandon Klukow, 125; Neal Underdahl, 130; Adam Elseth, 135; Adam Morreim, 140; Dustin Eggum, 152; Justin Krueger, 171; and Derek Goodnature, 189.
Winners against Northfield were Zach Hansen, Josh Hansen, Elseth, Morreim and Eggum.
Elseth improved his record to 14-0.
The junior varsity blanked JM 75-0 and topped Northfield 57-3. The lineup included Zach Hansen, Taylor Ignaszewski, Eric Elleby, Tim Frazier, Adam Scott, Jake Clark, Corey Frerk, Jake Levisen, Josh Wilke, Ben Berhow, Tony Stadheim, Randy Larson and Derek Lau. Matt Morris won an exhibition match.
The Tigers, 4-4 overall and 2-1 in the Big Nine, wrestle next on Jan. 4 at Faribault.
