WASECA – The Albert Lea High School wrestling team finished fourth out of eight schools in Waseca’s Don Eustice Memorial Tournament Saturday.

WASECA – The Albert Lea High School wrestling team finished fourth out of eight schools in Waseca’s Don Eustice Memorial Tournament Saturday.

Scott West won with 211 points, followed by Hayfield with 157, Waseca 149.5, Albert Lea 138.5, Mankato West 113.5, Redwood Valley 90, NRHEG 84 and JWP 73.

The Tigers had two champions. Josh Hansen repeated at 103 pounds, improving his record to 7-1. Adam Elseth was first at 135, dominating all three of his opponents while improving to 8-0.

Brandon Klukow was second at 125, wrestling strong all day and dropping a close match in the finals.

Justin Krueger came back from a disappointing overtime loss in the semifinals to win the third-place match in overtime.

Two others wrestled well while taking third, Neal Underdahl at 130 and Brandon Servantez at 160. Underdahl ran his record to 6-3.

Other varsity places: Adam Morreim, fourth, 140; Alex Hansen, fifth, 112; Nate Goodnature, sixth, 119; Chris Hable, sixth, heavyweight.

Three Tigers went 0-2 and did not place: Nate Loberg, 145; Jared Butler, 152; Derek Goodnature, 189.

&uot;The wrestlers continued to show improvement in their third outing of the year,&uot; said assistant coach Mike Hansen. &uot;The individual format of the tournament gives all the wrestlers a chance to see quality competition.&uot;

The Albert Lea junior varsity placed second in a dual-meet format, defeating Hayfield 47-12 and Scott West 31-28 while falling 42-27 to Waseca.

The Tigers’ junior varsity lineup and records for the day: Zach Hansen, 103, 1-2; Taylor Ignaszewski, 112, 3-0; Eric Elleby, 119, 2-1; Tim Frazier, 125, 1-2; Adam Scott, 130, 1-2; Jake Clark, 135, 3-0; Corey Frerk, 140, 3-0; Jake Levisen, 145, 2-1; Josh Wilke, 152, 2-1; Mike Honeycutt, 160, 0-3; Matt Neist, 171, 0-1; Josh Magnes, 171, 0-1; Randy Larson, 189, 2-1; Derek Lau, heavyweight, 2-1.

The Tigers return to Big Nine dual-meet action Thursday at Mankato West.
