Council sets 2002 budget, tax levy

The Albert Lea City Council went ahead with setting the tax levy and adopting its fiscal year 2002 budget Monday.

The Albert Lea City Council went ahead with setting the tax levy and adopting its fiscal year 2002 budget Monday.
The total budget is $17,043,051 out of which $12,457,039 is for the general fund.
The levy is $1,375,000: $1,355,850 for the general fund and $19,150 for the armory bonds debt service.
The council also approved salaries for non-union employees.
According to the non-union pay scale, the highest salary among the city officials is the City Manager’s $89,913 plus $1,560 for fulfilling the Albert Lea Port Authority Executive Position.
Other items adopted by the council were:
n Designating $3 million in the fund balance of the general fund for use in street construction during 2002 and 2003.
n Installing a $61,000 new boiler in the city office building to make the heating system more efficient.
n Equipping street lighting along Township Road 105, Consul Street and Olson Drive near the new Home Depot area.
