WINDOM – The Albert Lea Tigers didn’t let a two-hour delay bother them. At least not once they hit the ice. The Windom Eagles didn’t prove to be much of a problem either.

The Tigers, who expected to play at 1 p.m. Saturday, instead had to wait until 3 because of a scheduling slip-up and went on to win 3-0 in a nonconference boys’ hockey game at Windom.

It evened the record at 1-1 for the Tigers, who dropped a tough 4-3 overtime decision to Owatonna in their opener. It also continued to raise the prospects for the Tigers, who are low in numbers but apparently have decided to compete anyway.

&uot;We worked hard and we controlled play for most of the game,&uot; said Albert Lea coach Roy Nystrom.

Junior Adam Newman registered the shutout in goal for the Tigers, stopping 11 shots.

The Tigers put 31 shots on Windom’s netminder, scoring one goal in each period.

Adam Boelter netted the first score, Matt Bracker the second on an assist from Peter Hillman. Casey Schumacher’s unassisted power-play goal finished it.

Both teams had five power plays.

According to Nystrom, it could have been even more one-sided.

&uot;We had numerous scoring opportunities but we kind of fumbled a lot of them away ourselves,&uot; said the coach. &uot;We had a lot of odd-man rushes but we ended up with nothing because we couldn’t handle the puck.

&uot;But we played good defense, worked hard and we were able to win the game.&uot;

The Tigers have another nonconference game Thursday, traveling to face Section 1A favorite and last year’s Class A state runner-up Rochester Lourdes.
