ADAMS – Trailing by six points entering the fourth quarter, Glenville-Emmons boys’ basketball coach Jeff Rayman knew it was time to try something different.
A full-court press was the answer.
The Wolverines forced several turnovers and took the game into overtime while beating Lyle/Austin Pacelli 69-60 in the consolation bracket of the Southland Rebel Classic Friday night.
&uot;I was happy with our fourth-quarter and our comeback, but very dissatisfied with the first three quarters,&uot; said Wolverines coach Jeff Rayman. &uot;We missed a lot of easy shots. But you’ve got to credit the kids. They came back well in the fourth quarter.&uot;
Paul Kleven started the comeback with a steal and a basket, scoring eight of his 14 points in the fourth. He also had six rebounds.
Chase Rayman, the son of Coach Rayman, had 19 points, 15 rebounds and four assists. Nick Flatness contributed 13 points and 14 rebounds. Matt Webb and Zach Adams both scored six points off the bench while Maurice Chessmore totaled five points and eight rebounds.
The Wolverines were 24-for-67 from the floor and 18-for-28 at the line, totaling 52 rebounds and 20 turnovers.
The Wolverines, 4-1, were scheduled to face NRHEG in the tournament’s fifth-place game Saturday.
