Three times Todd Behr had stood at the brink of perfection.
Each time he came agonizingly close.
The fourth time was the charm.
After three 299 games in his 21-year bowling career, Behr finally rolled a 300 during the Holiday Classic League at Albert Lea’s Holiday Lanes.
He didn’t think much about it this time after coming so close so many times before, but, admittedly, there was some nervous tension that escalated in the 10th frame.
&uot;On the 12th ball I wasn’t worried as much about a 300, but more concerned about getting another 299,&uot; said Behr. &uot;I always think about 300 when I start with the first two, but then I don’t think about it again until the 10th frame.&uot;
By then there’s usually a sizable crowd gathering.
&uot;The ninth strike was probably the toughest and most key, as that’s when I knew more people were watching,&uot; said Behr. &uot;I just wanted to stay aggressive and make the shot that I knew I could make.&uot;
Behr finished with a series of 654. His career-best series is 777.
A student at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, the Albert Lea native is no stranger to followers of local bowling. He was a member of the Albert Lea High School team, most valuable bowler in the conference and an ABT champion.
Behr carries an average of about 203 in ABT competition this season, though he’s averaged as high as 217 per game in leagues.
