With the 2002 marching season almost upon us, the Albert Lea High School Marching Tigers are working to raise money to fund the marching season. With a performance planned at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla. in July, the band boosters and students will be raising close to $100,000 to cover the cost of the trip as well as the regular marching season. The Tigers will be marching in approximately 12 parades around Minnesota. They will be competing with the top rated bands in the state. Director Scott Fitzsimonds said he is confident that the program they are preparing will be their best yet.
On Feb. 8, the Albert Lea Marching Tigers will host a chili feed at the American Legion hall in downtown Albert Lea. The dinner will run from 5:30-8 p.m. The event will not only feature dinner and desserts, but the Albert Lea Jazz Bands will be performing during dinner. The cost of the tickets is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Children under age 5 will eat for free. Tickets will be available at the door or from band students. All proceeds will go to the Albert Lea Marching Tigers Band Booster organization. The money raised helps offset the summer tuition cost for every student in summer marching band.
Shortly after the chili feed, the band will kick off their spring fund raiser with Century Resources. Included in the sale are not only candies, but also spring bulbs and flowers, all of which would make excellent Mother’s Day gifts. All proceeds from the sales go directly into the students’ accounts.
Their final fund-raiser before the marching season begins is the annual band garage sale April 13 at the Northbridge Mall. The sale will run from 8 a.m.-3 p.m., or until the good stuff is gone. All money raised will go directly into the students’ accounts.
