Make it twice.

The Knights, struggling in Gopher Conference play, completed a regular-season sweep of the Wolverines with a 33-29 nonconference girls’ basketball victory at Alden Tuesday night. The Knights, winners of one conference game, improved to 6-11 overall while the Wolverines, 4-2 in the Southeast Conference, fell to 6-10 for the season.

&uot;I’m pretty happy,&uot; said Knights coach Mark Henrich. &uot;The girls played tough.&uot;

Wolv-erines coach Lisa Ziebell agreed, though she felt her team did not play well.

&uot;We were outplayed and outhustled,&uot; said Ziebell. &uot;They pressured our guards and it was a night our guards picked to have an off night. We came out slow and sluggish and not ready to play. But don’t take anything away from Alden. They played us hard.&uot;

The Wolverines took the early lead, jumping on top 7-4 at the end of the first quarter and 18-10 at halftime. Then the Knights went on a 12-4 run to knot it at 22 entering the fourth.

&uot;We played well in the second half,&uot; said Henrich. &uot;The first half wasn’t the best.&uot;

Angie Wichmann scored 10 points to lead a balanced Alden-Conger offense. She also had six steals and three assists. Tasha Lackey scored nine points. Nicole Krueger had eight points, eight rebounds and 10 steals. Megan Peterson added four points, Jenny Krueger two.

They were the only five healthy full-time players for the Knights. Kristin Martinson, who played despite being ill, played a strong defensive game, according to Henrich.

Megan Avery led the Wolverines with seven points and 13 rebounds. Alisa Rayman had seven points, six rebounds and four steals. Kelly Yost and Taryn Kaasa contributed four points apiece.

The Wolverines play Thursday at Lanesboro while the Knights host Medford Friday.
