The last time the Albert Lea High School girls’ hockey team met Owatonna, the Huskies’ Lindsay Macy scored five goals as the Tigers lost 6-1.
Things were a little different Tuesday. But not much. Macy scored two goals, assisted on a third and essentially created another as Owatonna shut out Albert Lea 6-0 in a Big Nine game at the City Arena.
The loss was a severe blow to the Tigers’ hopes of capturing second place in the Big Nine as they fell to 7-4-1 in the conference. They’re 11-5-1 overall.
Katie Baldwin was credited with the Huskies’ first goal, though it came on a rebound after Tiger goalie Danika Porter stopped a shot by Macy. That was at 3:46 of the first period. Macy made it 2-0 with an unassisted score at 10:30.
Another unassisted goal by Macy put Owatonna up 3-0 1:12 into the second period. The junior then assisted on a score by Cassie Knopp. Ashley Jenkins scored twice in the third period.
The Tigers, outshot 29-20, had eight power play opportunities. Owatonna had two.
Albert Lea is in action again Thursday at Mankato West.
