Ryker, son of Cathy and Ron Rofshus of rural Emmons, was the first baby born in Freeborn County in 2002. This New Year’s Day baby was born at 7:43 a.m. Tuesday at Albert Lea Medical Center. He weighed 8 pounds, 1-1/2 ounces at birth. Ryker has an older sister, C. J., who celebrated her second birthday last month. His mother explained that Ryker is based on the Norwegian word for Richard and the character named Riker from the &uot;Star Trek&uot; television series.
