The Big Island Rendezvous Education Days, Chamber of Commerce and the Albert Lea Convention and Visitors Bureau are hosting an &uot;Evening of Food and Entertainment&uot; Friday, Jan. 25, at Budget Host Inn. The social begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by tasting from 6-7 p.m. with the auction beginning at 7.
Dick Kimmel and Company will perform and MD Auction Company of Owatonna and Tracy Holland of Ellendale will auction off items.
Tickets are available by calling 373-3938 and making a reservation. Tickets are $15 per person or $25 per couple. You must have a ticket reserved in order to attend, as space is limited.
These gourmet cooks will offer the following items: Sally Fadden of Bagels and Beans – dinner for six; Scott Fadden of Event Caterers – dinner for 10; Linda Bottelson – barbecued rib dinner for six; Pat Johanssen – appetizers for 12; Pootie Reed of Lakeside Cafe – Super Bowl party for 15; Barb Craig – three hours of housecleaning; Dan Dorman – shrimp alfredo dinner for eight; Darrel Amundson and Jim Pilgrim – beef stroganoff dinner for six; Terri Hollingsworth and Nick’s Meat Market – dinner for four at Big Island Rendezvous; Dennis Brue of B&B Cafe – breakfast for eight; Roxann Brue – &uot;Poopie&uot; cake; Beth Atz – shrimp jambalaya dinner for six; Rainbow Foods – Super Bowl party for 25; Lee Sutton – Italian dinner for six; Culley’s Depot of New Richland – limo service and steak/lobster dinner for four, including wine; Culley’s Depot of New Richland – patio party for 10; Jackie Abrego – spa treatment; Piggy Blues Barbecue of Austin – dinner for six; Faye and Don Pederson – lunch and dessert for 10 at the Rendezvous; Dinah’s Style – basket of &uot;goodies&uot;; Bill Koza and gang – dinner party at Rendezvous for four; Tom and Jean Eaton/Lakeside Cafe – Pelican Breeze cruise and gourmet chili/ dessert tray for 15.
Following is a roundup of other area events going on this weekend:
Friday, Jan. 25
– The All-Member Exhibit continues at the Albert Lea Art Center from noon-4 p.m. Some 20 artists, all members of the Art Center, are exhibiting all types of media: watercolor, acrylics, pastels, pen and ink, photography, sculpture, carvings, drawings and rosemaling, just to name a few. Admission is free, but donations are accepted to help defray expenses.
– Classic county and comedy will be featured at the Jim Owen Show starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Albert Lea High School auditorium. This appearance by the Nashville and Branson star is sponsored by Glaydon Iverson Chapter 16 of the Disabled American Veterans and Albert Lea Community Education. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Tickets are available at: Albert Lea Community Education- Brookside, Wells Fargo, US Bank, Hy-Vee, American Legion, Sanderson Auto, Skyline Barbers, DAV and Auxiliary members, Mel’s Diner of Ellendale, Nemitz’s of Austin, and at the three Albert Lea Hallmark locations: Downtown, Skyline Mall and Northbridge Mall.
Saturday, Jan. 26

– The Story Lady Doll & Toy Museum, 131 N. Broadway, will host a Madeline party at noon and 2 p.m. Carol Lien will tell about her collection of Madeline items. She will bring her collection for everyone to see. Carol is a kindergartner at Halverson Elementary School. People should bring a sack lunch and a favorite doll or teddy. There will be door prizes and stories. The event is for ages 2 to 92. Cost is $2 for adults, and free for museum members and children.
Sunday, Jan. 27
– The Albert Lea Boys Basketball Boosters will hold a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Elks Club. Pancakes, sausage, potatoes, eggs and beverage will be served. Cost is $4 for adults and $2 for children.
