According to the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Department, a jailer found the girl uncouncious in the attorney conference room in the jail facility, a room that is used to detain juvenile offenders temporarily.

The juvenile was on her knees with a shoe string around her neck. She was taken to Naeve Hospital and later pronounced dead. The body has been sent to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office in St. Paul for an autopsy.

The juvenile was transported from a detention facility in Rochester in the morning for a court appearance in the county district court, according to the sheriff’s office. After the court appearance, around 10:30 a.m., she was moved to an attorney conference room in the jail to wait for the arrival of Ramsey County officials to transport her.

She had been interacting with jail staff and had eaten lunch, and seemed in good spirits as late as 12:40 p.m., when she was left alone, according to the sheriff’s office. She was discovered with the shoelaces around her neck less than 15 minutes later.
