ALDEN – It was the final regular-season home game for seniors Kristin Martinson and Stef Ausen, and they made the most of it.
Nicole Krueger and Angie Wichmann made sure they got a win.
Krueger and Wichmann combined for 33 points as the Knights defeated Grand Meadow 62-46 in a nonconference girls’ basketball game at Alden Friday night.
&uot;The girls wanted to win,&uot; said Alden-Conger coach Mark Henrich. &uot;Grand Meadow gave us a good fight in the first half. We just took care of the things we needed to do. It was a team win. We played as a team and we won as a team.&uot;
While Wichmann led the team with 17 points, Krueger had an outstanding all-around game with 16 points, 16 rebounds, eight blocked shots and eight assists.
Martinson scored eight points while Austin had six points, nine rebounds and five steals. Six of Ausen’s rebounds were on the offensive end.
&uot;They both played a strong all-around game,&uot; said Henrich. &uot;Kristin has really taken charge out there on offense.&uot;
Tasha Lackey added eight points, Megan Peterson six.
After a 12-12 tie at the end of the first quarter, the Knights led 31-25 at halftime and 41-34 after three periods.
&uot;The girls just pulled it out,&uot; said Henrich. &uot;They played hard and knew what they had to do.&uot;
The Knights improved to 7-15 while the Superlarks fell to 1-18. The Knights return to Gopher Conference play Tuesday at Blooming Prairie.
