According to the Albert Lea Fire Department, the fire was reported around 10:30 a.m. Nine firefighters dispatched to the scene suppressed the flames shortly. The damage due to the blaze was contained in a bedroom on the second floor, but smoke damage extended to the entire floor, the department said.

Two children and their mother were in the house at that time. The mother was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor burns on her hands and smoke inhalation, according to the fire department.

The fire started in the bedroom, and the fire department is investigating the cause. There was a functioning smoke detector on the second floor, which might have contributed to the quick evacuation, according to the department.
