WASECA – The Albert Lea A Bantams braved ice and snow packed roads to play in their final tournament of the season at Waseca.
The first game, against Rochester South, was canceled because of the weather.
The second game proved to be a tough matchup against Austin, with Austin coming out on top 5-2. Albert Lea’s Jonathan Breuer scored in the first period, assisted by Cory Ellertson and Lucas Flugum. The second goal by Albert Lea came late in the third period by Ethan Peterson, with assists by Breuer and Ellertson. Albert Lea’s Evan Long faced 39 shots in goal.
Albert Lea and Northfield played for third place on Sunday. It was an even game, with the locals pulling out a 5-4 win. Scoring unassisted 1:36 into the first period was Alex Stadheim. Casey Bowman scored on an assist by Breuer, ending the period 2-2. After a scoreless second period, Northfield scored first in the third before Albert Lea answered with three consecutive goals. The first by Peter Bracker, assisted by Breuer and Flugum. Next was a goal by Breuer on an assist from Flugum. Ellertson scored unassisted. Long had another great game in net, stopping 28 shots.
The Albert Lea A Bantams ended their season with a 30-15-2 record.
