GLENVILLE – The Glenville-Emmons boys’ basketball team had another strong season under coach Dan Fredrickson, finishing 14-4.

The Wolverines ended the year with two very memorable victories, 46-45 over Grand Meadow and 55-52 over Spring Grove.

Against Grand Meadow, Glenville-Emmons erased a double-digit deficit in the final two minutes. Eighth-grader Michael Greibrok tied it with a three-point basket with 15 seconds remaining and freshman Dustin Rayman hit the game-winning free throw with two seconds left. Freshman Kelsey Martinson had seven big points as the offense struggled early. Greibrok finished with 12. Michael Yocom had 11 points, 11 rebounds, six steals, three blocked shots and three assists.

The Spring Grove game was the Wolverines’ best of the season, according to Fredrickson.

&uot;It was an outstanding effort,&uot; said the coach. &uot;I’ve never been so proud of a team’s overall effort. We came to play.&uot;

Sophomore Kris Knutson played his most inspired basketball of the year, totaling 13 points and 10 rebounds. Yocom again led the way with 14 points, 10 rebounds, six steals, five assists and two blocks. Yocom also played an outstanding floor game, helping the Wolverines handle Spring Grove’s press with ease. Greibrok and Rayman added 10 points apiece. Tyler Ziebell added five, Tony Walk three.

Yocom was the team’s MVP. Defensive awards went to Ziebell and sophomore Matt Schilling.

The rest of the squad included sophomore Josh Flatness, freshmen Seth Holstad and Nathan Cooper, and eighth-grader Seth Buchanan.

Yocom, Knutson, Walk, Schilling and Flatness finished their B-squad careers with a regular-season record of 38-4.

While the Wolverines’ varsity graduates seven seniors off a team that went 18-5 in Jeff Rayman’s final season as coach, Fredrickson said the cupboard is far from empty for the next head coach.

&uot;Our strength is now in our underclassmen,&uot; said Fredrickson. &uot;I have to say that our Glenville-Emmons program is in good hands for many, many years.&uot;
