An annual tradition takes place at the Albert Lea City Arena this weekend.
The 20th annual KATE Farm, Home and Recreation Show runs Friday through Sunday. Admission is free, and hours are from 4-8 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, and noon-5 p.m. Sunday. There will be displays and hourly prize drawings.
Following is a roundup of other events happening in the area this weekend.
Friday, March 15
– The Trish Lease photography show continues at Gos-sip. Hours are 9 a.m.-11 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will go to help a New York City firefighter’s family.
– Northbridge Mall hosts a spring arts and crafts sale from 10 a.m.-9 p.m.
– The kindergarten through sixth-grade elementary/middle school exhibit continues at the Albert Lea Art Center. Students’ works from Albert Lea elementary classes, Alden-Conger Elementary, St. Theodore’s and Glenville- Emmons are on display. Gallery hours are from noon-4 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are accepted to help defray Art Center expenses.

– St. Theodore Catholic Church will hold a fish fry from 5-6:30 p.m. in Marian Hall. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 12. Kids under 3 eat free. The menu includes fish, baked or mashed potatoes, cole slaw, rolls, and ice cream with toppings.
– Tiger’s Roar 2002: &uot;Tiger Pride – American Pride&uot; will be presented at 7 p.m. in the Albert Lea High School auditorium. Tickets for the annual showcase of student talent are $5 for adults and $4 for students and seniors. They are available at Andersen Hallmark Stores and at the door.

– The Glenville Booster Club hosts the Jose Cole Circus at 3 and 5 p.m. in the Glenville-Emmons High School gym. Tickets are $5 in advance for children 12 and under and $7 for adults. Tickets are available at Citizens State Bank, the Shortstop, the school office and Stan’s Market in Glenville, and Hy-Vee and Rainbow Foods in Albert Lea. Advance ticket outlets close at 5 p.m. Friday. Tickets at the door are $6 for children and $8 for adults. Children 2 years and under will be admitted free with a paying adult.
– The Emmons Volunteer Firefighters and First Responders will hold a soup and pie supper from 4-7 p.m. at the Emmons Legion. A freewill offering will be received. Funds are being matched by Modern Woodmen of America, Lynda Vermedahl, representative. Proceeds will go to upgrade equipment.
– The Hartland Legion Auxiliary will hold a soup and pie supper from 4:30-7 p.m. at the Hartland Community Center. The proceeds will go to the Hartland Fire Department.
– A &uot;show choir rescue dinner&uot; will be held beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the commons area at Albert Lea High School. The cost is $5 per plate, and includes sloppy joes, potato salad, veggies, drink and homemade cream puffs. Because of bad weather, the annual show choir competition, which had been scheduled for March 9, had to be canceled.

Sunday, March 17
– A fund-raiser breakfast for Emmons Borderfest will be held from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, March 17, at the Emmons American Legion. French toast, scrambled eggs, sausage, milk, juice and coffee will be served. Cost is $4 for adults and $3 for children 10 and under.
– Northbridge Mall hosts a spring craft show from noon-5 p.m.

– The open house for the kindergarten through sixth-grade elementary/middle school exhibit will be at the Albert Lea Art Center from 2-4 p.m. Students’ works from Albert Lea elementary classes, Alden-Conger Elementary, St. Theodore’s and Glenville- Emmons are on display. Admission is free, but donations are accepted to help defray Art Center expenses. This open house was originally scheduled for March 10, but postponed due to bad weather.
– The Albert McNeil Jubilee Singers will perform for the Albert Lea Civic Music Association at 3 and 8 p.m. in the Albert Lea High School Auditorium. The concert is co-sponsored by the Civic Music Association, Irene Bebler, the Kenneth W. Olson Charitable Foundation, and Judge James E. Broberg in memory of Linda H. Broberg. In their 35-year history, the singers have focused worldwide attention on the vast body of music best known as Negro Spirituals.
