Coach Gina Eppen was pleased with the improvement of the Albert Lea High School girls’ golf team in Monday’s meet against Austin.

She wasn’t happy with the outcome.

The Tigers shot 409 for 18 holes, dropping 16 strokes from their Friday score, but they lost as the Packers totaled 374.

&uot;We didn’t really shoot all that bad,&uot; said Tigers coach Gina Eppen. &uot;But we had some trouble. Some girls found themselves in bunkers. It’s tough to stay focused when it’s cold.&uot;

Senior captain Kari Nelson was the lone Tiger to break 100, finishing at 98. Other scores for the varsity: Amie Hartman, 103; Hayley Westney, 104; Shawna Mummert, 104; Catie Rebelein, 105; Brie Woitas, 114.

The loss dropped the Tigers’ record to 0-3 in the Big Nine.

&uot;A 409 is definitely better,&uot; said Eppen. &uot;But it’s not really where we want to be.&uot;

The Albert Lea junior varsity improved to 3-0 with a 224-255 triumph for nine holes.

Jackie Montag led the JV with a 49. Angie Wagner shot 53, Betsy Paulson 59, Kelsey Walton 63.

The Tigers are at Waseca’s Lakeside Golf Club today for an 18-hole nonconference meet.
