Madonna Mae Towne, 69, Hartley, Iowa

Madonna Mae Towne, the daughter Of Harry and Ethel Gettis Andersen, was born Nov. 17, 1932, in Howard County, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Emmons where she received her education, graduating from Emmons High School in 1950. Donna went to Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea, where she received her RN degree.

Donna married Wally Towne on Dec. 5, 1954, in Emmons. Following their marriage, they lived in Albert Lea where she worked as a Registered Nurse. On Jan. 10, 1958, they moved to Hartley, Iowa,

where she worked at the Spencer, Iowa, and Hartley Hospitals. At the age of 36, she continued her education to become a Hospital Administrator, which she achieved and was Administrator of the Hartley Hospital for 20 years. She was a board member of the Iowa Hospital Association and a member of the National Hospital Association. Donna was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hartley. She enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping and especially her grandchildren.

Mrs. Towne passed away at her home in Hartley on Thursday, April 18, 2002, at the age of 69.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Woodrow and Patrick Andersen; three sisters: Darlene Andersen, Ode Bresee and Audrey Oppergard; and a grandson, Hunter Towne.

She is survived by her husband, Wallace of Hartley; two sons: Jeff and his wife, Lori of Milford, Iowa, and Larry and his wife Angie Towne of Hartley; one daughter and her husband, Deb and Tom McNally of Hartley; eight grandchildren: Stacie and Lindie Towne, Shannon, Ian and Clancy McNally, and Wyatt, Gage and Skylar Towne; two sisters: Margaret Hanson of Los Alamos, N.M., and Cora Bennett of Anchorage, Alaska; one brother, Jay Andersen, of Albert Lea; and other relatives and many friends.
