NRHEG girls 2nd only to Albert Lea

NEW RICHLAND &045; It was a very good meet for the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva girls’ track and field team.

But it was an outstanding performance for the Albert Lea Tigers, and that left the Panthers in second place.

The NRHEG girls were again runners-up to Albert Lea in the Panther Invitational at New Richland Tuesday.

Albert Lea won with 170.5 points. The Panthers scored 141.5, followed by St. Clair with 57, Medford 55, Maple River 47, Alden-Conger 43, Glenville-Emmons 36, Minnesota Academy for the Deaf 6 and Lyle/Austin Pacelli 2.

The difference was first-place finishes. The Panthers had three to the Tigers’ 11.

“For a windy day, we had some good performances,” said Panthers co-coach Duey Ferber.

The highlight for the Panthers was Nicole Lonning’s school-record toss of 37-10 in the shot put. She was second in the discus.

“Nicole had a great meet,” said Ferber.

The other firsts were by Kalisha Anthony in the 100-meter hurdles and the 4×100 relay team of Emily Kofstad, Ellen Johnson, Michelle Dobberstein and Anthony.

Kelsie Hanson was second in three events, the 100 and 300 hurdles and the high jump. Anthony, Alison Anderson, Brandis Hagen and Camille Kyte took second in the 4×200 relay.

Two relays took third, the 4×800 team of Jessica Brouwers, Melissa Maurer, Michel Maurer and April Bayerkohler and the 4×400 team of Ashley Misgen, Alisha Kaplan, Sommers and Kyte.

Other NRHEG places: Kyte, second, 300 hurdles, third, 100 and fourth, triple jump; Anthony, third, pole vault; Misgen, third, 300 hurdles and fifth, 100 hurdles; Megan Groskreutz, fourth, pole vault; Anderson, fourth, 100; Michel Maurer, fourth, 800; Jessica Brouwers, fourth, 3200; Mackenzie Tappe, fourth, high jump and fifth, triple jump; Bayerkohler, fifth, 1600; Kaplan, sixth, long jump; Kofstad, sixth, triple jump; Tami Sorenson, sixth, 300 hurdles.
