It improved rapidly.

After giving up four runs in the first two innings, Summer faced only one batter over the minimum through the final four frames as the Rebels defeated New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva 6-4 in a nonconference game at Wells Tuesday.

Summer, a junior right-hander, struck out seven and walked six while the Panthers totaled five hits.

&uot;We did well to come back being down 3-0 right away,&uot; said USC coach Brad Huse, whose team improved to 2-0.

&uot;It was a good game,&uot; said NRHEG coach Wendy Schultz. &uot;We had a couple errors that were very costly, but we had a lot of good hits, particularly from our younger people.&uot;

Nichole Fulton, Mackenzie Huston and Danielle Banashak had hits and drove in a run each for USC. Hilary Wacholz also had a hit.

Jenny Golhofer, Lindsey Hendrickson, Emily Hagen, Betsy Waldhauser and Chelsea Quiram each had one hit for the Panthers, who fell to 1-1. Erin Anderson struck out seven and walked two while pitching a complete game.

The Rebels play at Fairmont Thursday. NRHEG hosts Medford Monday.
