GLENVILLE – Since outdoor practices have been extremely limited this spring, Glenville-Emmons softball coach Bob Staska opted to work exclusively on defense Monday.
He must have known the offense would be all right.
The Wolverines totaled 10 hits while blasting visiting Medford 17-0 in the season opener at Glenville Tuesday. They also played errorless defense as the game was called after five innings by the 10-run rule.
“We didn’t make any errors,” said Staska. “We played good defense and we threw strikes, which is what we wanted. We made some real nice plays in the field. We also swung the bats real well.”
The leaders at the plate were Amy Fredrickson, 2-for-2 with three RBIs; Kelly Yost, 2-for-3 with three RBIs; and Jill Yost, 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Adding one hit each were Katie Kimble, Katie Brackey, Jill Delger and Jessica Clausen.
Delger pitched the first four innings and did not allow a hit. She walked two and struck out seven. Clausen pitched the fifth, giving up one hit with one strikeout.
The Wolverines open Southeast Conference play Friday at Spring Grove.
