Stella M. Hanson, 85, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Stella M. Hanson, age 85, of Albert Lea, will be held 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, at the West Freeborn Lutheran Church. The Rev. Dennis Frank will officiate. Interment will be in the West Freeborn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today, at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Stella died on Friday, April 19, 2002, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Stella Mathilde Hanson was born on Feb. 5, 1917, in Freeborn County, the daughter of Anton and Netta (Wangen) Erlandson. She graduated from Freeborn High School. On May 21, 1939, Stella was married to William Hanson at the West Freeborn Lutheran Church. They farmed in the Freeborn area until 1962 when they moved into Freeborn. Stella was a member of the West Freeborn Lutheran Church where she was active in many capacities. She served as Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, was a member of the Altar Guild, belonged to the church women’s group and the Lydia Circle. Stella enjoyed crocheting sweaters for layettes, doing hardanger, and needlework.
Survivors include her husband, William of Albert Lea; children: Clark and his wife Lyla Hanson of Brookings, S.D., Antoinette and her husband Lowell Larson of Hartland, and Keith and his wife Blanca Hanson of Des Moines, Iowa; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters: Inga Thompson of Freeborn, and Laura Hugtveit of Pipestone; sister-in-law, Clara Margadant of Albert Lea; and many nieces and nephews.
Stella was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers: Nels, Herman, and Ray Erlandson; her sisters: Emma and Agnes Erlandson, and Mabel Grady; and nephews.
