Lackey, Knights pound Medford

ALDEN &045; After their last outing, the Alden-Conger Knights were instructed by coach Gary Nelson to be more aggressive at the plate.

They listened. So, apparently, did pitcher Steph Lackey.

Lackey threw a no-hitter and the Knights banged out 11 hits while overwhelming Medford 20-0 in a Gopher Conference softball game at Alden Thursday.

&uot;Steph was overpowering and we made the plays when we had to make the plays,&uot; said Nelson.

&uot;Offensively, we started hitting again. I told them to be more aggressive after Friday. Tonight we were aggressive, and things happened.&uot;

But not much happened on the base paths for the Tigers, who walked three times and struck out nine against Lackey. It was the first no-hit, no-run game for the freshman right-hander.

Lackey, Kenra Mathiason and Stef Ausen were all 2-for-3 for the Knights. Adding one hit each were Tana Reindal, Nicole Bute, Patty Boettcher, Molly Wasmoen and Erin Bremseth.

The Knights improved to 7-5 and 5-2 in the conference, leaving them just one game out of first place in the loss column.

The Knights host United South Central in a nonconference game today.
