Marie S. Schneider, 83, Albert Lea

The funeral service for Marie S. Schneider, formerly of 1206 Southview Lane, Albert Lea, will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, May 31, at the United Methodist Church in Albert Lea.

The Rev. James Haun will officiate.

Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour before the service at the church.

Marie died at Apple Valley Health Care Center, Apple Valley, Minn., on Tuesday, May 28, 2002.

Marie S. Schneider was born in Albia, Iowa, Monroe County, on June 17, 1918, to John L. and Eliza (Shoemaker) Stephenson.

The family moved to Albert Lea in 1922.

She graduated from high school in 1935 and attended one year of college at Iowa State in Ames, Iowa.

Later in life, she also attended Mankato State.

She married Albert E. Schneider on Sept. 29, 1937.

Marie did office work at Wallace’s and Smith-Douglass before starting at Queen Products, retiring in 1983 after 29 years.

Marie had many hobbies and interests, including painting, sewing of all kinds, knitting, crocheting, quilting, and weaving.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and also played in the hand bell choir.

Years ago, she played the piano for Sunday school children.

She was a member of DAR and the Weaver’s Guild where she contributed her talents in weaving the paraments for the altar.

Marie is survived by her two children: Charles Schneider and his wife Rayna of Frankfort, N.Y., and Marian (Schneider) Knutson and her husband Ronald of Lakeville, Minn.; five grandchildren: Lane Knutson of Lakeville, Eric Knutson and his wife Dawn of Northfield, Allison Knutson of Tallahassee, Fla., Dana Schneider of Frankfort, N.Y., and Megan Schneider of Frankfort, N.Y.; one step-grandson, Paul Baker of Kent, Ohio; three great-grandchildren: Brett, Bryce and Julia Knutson of Northfield; one brother, John Robert Stephenson and his wife Frances of Jacksonville, Fla.; brother-in-law, Lloyd Schneider and his wife Genevieve of Albert Lea; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Cleo Stephenson; and her infant son.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Parkinson’s Association of Minnesota, 6701 Country Club Road, Golden Valley, MN 55427.

A very heartfelt thank you to all who cared for Marie over the past six years.
