Tennis Tigers eliminated in section tournament

MANKATO &045; A young lineup facing a tough draw led to an early exit from the Section 1AA tournament for the Albert Lea High School boys’ tennis team.
The Tigers, seeded seventh, lost 7-0 to
second-seeded Mankato West in the opening round at Mankato Tuesday.
&uot;The guys worked hard this year and they played hard today,&uot; said ALHS coach Sean Gillam, whose team finished 1-11 in dual meets. &uot;We really are behind in skills the teams we played. We’ve got to catch up on that.&uot;
The most competitive match Tuesday was No. 3 doubles, where the Tigers’ Greg Peterson and Steve Thorn lost 7-6 (7-3), 7-5. Matt Entorf and Matt Wulff also kept it close at No. 1 doubles, falling 6-4, 6-3. The No. 2 doubles team of Kurtis Bohrnstedt and Jon Mattson lost 6-0, 6-4.
Andrew Dyrdal had the most singles success, falling 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4. Paul Marlin lost 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2. Adam Luebke and Conner Keyeski were blanked at No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively.
The Tigers had no placewinners in the rain-delayed Big Nine tournament that concluded Monday.
The Tigers compete next Monday in the individual section tournament at Mankato.
