Two men appeared in the district court for charges of fraud and theft at Albert Lea’s Home Depot Monday.
Salvador Sanchez, 26, of Northwood, Iowa, and Moises Ledezma Garcia, 30, of Faribault, were charged with credit card fraud and theft by swindle.
According to the investigation, Sanchez visited Home Depot around 5 p.m. Friday and bought $1,100 worth of lumber, a cordless drill set and a gift card with a false credit card.
The clerk noticed the card was not valid just after the purchase and asked them to come back to the register when they were loading the lumber into a truck. Sanchez and Garcia fled the scene, but the State Patrol caught them on I-35.
The card had Sanchez’s name but all the data input in the card was from another card owned by somebody else. The police found two more Home Depot gift cards underneath the floor mats in the truck.
Judge James Broberg set bail at $7,500 for each of them. The next court hearing will be June 10.
