The city’s request Monday for MnDOT’s permission to use their land for three new welcome signs was merely a formality, but it does signal that the new signs are close to being placed at three of Albert Lea’s main entrance points. Those signs, complete with brick work and landscaping, should be well worth their cost because they will make Albert Lea more visible and memorable to visitors.
A &uot;Welcome to Albert Lea&uot; sign may not seem like much, but it’s one of many little touches that can ratchet up the attractiveness of the community. And because the signs may provide a first impression of the city, their value is as ambassadors for the city. You can never get a first impression back, so it may as well be a good one.
