EMMONS &045; The Dodge Center American Legion baseball team brought a perfect record to Emmons Tuesday night.
It wasn’t perfect when they left.
Glenville-Emmons improved its record to 2-0 while Dodge Center fell to 3-1 as the home team won 2-1 in eight innings.
&uot;We got good pitching, good defense and just enough hits to keep us in the game,&uot; said G-E coach Louie Toulouse. &uot;It was a nice win.&uot;
Mitch Meier started and finished the game on the mound for G-E, scattering seven hits while giving up one earned run, with eight strikeouts and no walks.
Matt Learn gave the home team a 1-0 lead in the first inning with a two-out home run that cleared the left center field fence with room to spare.
Dodge Center tied it in the top of the seventh on back-to-back doubles.
G-E won it in the first extra inning. Richie Mathis drew a leadoff walk and everyone was safe as Learn laid down a bunt and nobody covered first. Both advanced on a wild pitch and Mathis scored on a passed ball.
Learn was 3-for-3 for the game. Paul Kleven, Nick Flatness, Chase Rayman, Mike Yocom and Matt Webb each had one hit.
G-E faces Kasson-Mantorville at 7 p.m. Friday at Emmons.
