It’s billed as not just another golf tournament.

It’s more like a reunion.

The 1st Annual Tiger Football Invitational/Alumni and Friends Social is set for July 19-20 at Albert Lea Country Club, and it’s hoped the event will not only raise funds for the football program but reunite former players from far and wide.

The Quarterback Club, which is hosting the event, hopes to raise enough funds for new equipment and scholarships for college-bound seniors, and it is hoped at least 100 golfers will participate.

&uot;We are very hopeful that this event will be well attended by community supporters of the program as well as former players,&uot; said assistant Tiger football coach Jim Smith, one of the event’s organizers. &uot;We looked long and hard at making this a weekend event that former players and friends of the program could attend and catch up with each other after some time apart.&uot;

The golf portion will be Friday, July 19 and will be a four-person, best-shot format. There will be many raffle prizes and donations from local businesses and professional sports teams, as well as a chance to win one of the following prizes for anyone lucky enough to get a hole-in-one: $10,000 cash, a Sony camcorder, Calloway irons, round-trip airline tickets for two to anywhere in the U.S. Dinner will be held after the golf tournament, which begins at 1 p.m.

The alumni and friends social is Saturday, July 20 starting at 6 p.m. Snacks will be served.

&uot;At this event we are looking to honor past teams and coaches for their contributions to the program and for their continued support over the years,&uot; said Smith. &uot;It will be a time for players and supporters alike to catch up on each other’s lives and have a chance to meet the Tiger football staff both past and present.&uot;

Cost is $55 per person to golf or $210 per team of four – adults only. Cost for non-golfers is $3 for the Saturday social, free-will donation at the door for participants in the golf tournament.
