Funeral services for Karen Marie Whelan, age 43, of Bentonville, Ark., were held Wednesday, June 12, at the Benton County Funeral Home.

Karen died Saturday, June 8, 2002, at the Bates Medical Center in Bentonville, Ark.

She was born Dec. 16, 1958, in Albert Lea to Darold E. and Dorothy Swart. She married Larry Whelan on Oct. 11, 1983, in Albert Lea. She was a homemaker and a cashier for the Dollar General Store.

Karen is survived by her husband, Larry; one son, Riki, and one daughter, Marcy, at home; one stepdaughter, Grace; one brother, Terry, and sister, Mary, both from Bentonville; mother-in-law, Deloris Grove; brothers- and sisters-in-law: Dennis and Frances of Alden, Kevin and Diane of Albert Lea, Steve and friend Jane Perhus of Albert Lea, Arvilla and friend Dan Bye of Owatonna, David and Ann of Emmons, and Karlene and friend Al Avelar of Albert Lea;

and several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and many friends.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law, Leo; and one niece, Alissa.

Karen will be missed dearly.
