Dan Belshan, who has spent most of his four-year term on the county board going against the grain, announced Monday night that he’ll seek a second term as Freeborn County’s second-district commissioner.

&uot;I’ll continue to be a voice for common sense on the county board,&uot; Belshan said in a written statement. &uot;My being there has made a difference, and we still have unfinished projects that affect the whole county. I’m looking forward to the future.&uot;

Belshan announced his intent to run at Monday’s Myrtle City Council meeting.

After defeating George Frederickson in 1998 to fill the seat vacated by George Hajek, Belshan has questioned county spending and has been the most vocal opponent of many aspects of the county’s plans to replace parts of the county jail and courthouse.

The second district, which Belshan represents, covers roughly the eastern half of rural Freeborn County.
