Herbert Herman Bauers, 79, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Herbert Herman Bauers, 79, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 8, at Bayview/Freborn Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Daniel Baker will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the area servicemen’s organizations. Visitation was 3-6 p.m. Sunday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the services at the chapel.

Herbert died Thursday, July 4, 2002, at Thorne Crest Retirement Center North.

Herbert Herman Bauers was born Feb. 5, 1923, to Ben and Ella (Behrends) Bauers in Alden. He attended the Hammer School through eighth grade. On Nov. 15, 1945, Herbert was united in marriage to Lois Flatt at Salem Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. Herbert bought his farm in 1947 by Myrtle. In addition to being a farmer, he was a mechanic, a railroad worker and a carpenter. Herbert also owned and operated B & H Service in Myrtle and restored antique tractors. He was a man of many talents. Herbert had been a member of the Eagles for 35 years.

Survivors include his son, Kent &uot;Spike&uot; Bauers and wife Robin (Johnson) Bauers; two grandchildren, Zane & Darby; a sister, Frieda Miller; a brother, Harry; a sister-in-law, Myrel Bauers; nieces and nephews; good friends, Andy Hall and wife Laura; and Mervin Oakland with special thanks.

Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, Ella and Ben Bauers; his wife, Lois; a brother, Harold; and a nephew, Richard (Dick) Bauers; and brother-in-law, Ernie Miller.
