Leslie ‘Jerome’ Olson, 62, Austin

Leslie “Jerome” Olson, age 62, of Austin died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at his home in Austin.

He was born Aug. 2, 1939, in Harmony, Minn., to Bennie and Anna Viola (Storlie) Olson. He attended school in Harmony and Austin, graduating from Austin High School in 1958. Following graduation, Jerome worked at Nelson’s Market while attending Austin Vo-Tech. In 1963, he entered the United States Air Force serving in England. After his discharge in 1967, he returned to Austin where he was employed at Streater Inc. in Albert Lea, retiring in 2000. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and woodworking. He was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church.

Survivors include three brothers: Burnell (Doloris) Olson of Lansing, Arlyn Olson of Denison, Texas, and Donald (Doris) Olson of Austin; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

His parents; a brother in infancy; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Olson, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 11, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev Ron Barnett officiating. Visitation will be held at the Worlein Funeral Home, Austin, on Wednesday, July 10, from 5-7 p.m., and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery with flag presentation by members of American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216.

Memorials are preferred to St. Olaf Lutheran Church.
