Funeral services for Ronald D. Nielsen, age 53, of Las Vegas, Nev., formerly of Albert Lea, will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2, at Grace Lutheran Church. The Rev. John Henriksen will officiate. Burial will be at Lakewood Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 4-7 p.m. at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the services at the church.

Ron died on Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas.

Ronald Dean Nielsen was born on Nov. 9, 1948, in Albert Lea, the son of Enok and Harriet (Olson) Nielsen. He attended and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1967. Ron served his country in the U.S. Army. After his discharge he returned to Albert Lea where he attended the Albert Lea Technical College and finished at Mankato State with a degree in Animal Husbandry. For over 20 years Ron has been a slot technician in Las Vegas where he enjoyed working for and with the people of Harrah’s. He enjoyed traveling with his life companion, Carol. Ron was a positive, warm and fun loving person who enjoyed being with his many friends and family.

Survivors include his life companion, Carol Shiells of Las Vegas; mother, Harriet Nielsen of Albert Lea; brothers: Enok and wife Janice of Hawaii, and

Denny Nielsen of Albert Lea; sister, Jo and husband Harry LaCore of Albert Lea; special friends in England, Valerie and husband Brian McDade; and many nieces, nephews and cousins and his many friends in Las Vegas, Albert Lea and England.

Ron was preceded in death by his father, Enok Nielsen; and sisters: Janelle and Jan Askildson.

Ron was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
