Doris S. Slagle, 94, Albert Lea

Doris S. Slagle passed away at St. John’s Lutheran home on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002, where she had resided since February 2001.

Doris was born April 7, 1908, in Auburn, N.Y., daughter of Charles L. and Florence (VanDuyne) Stryker. She graduated from Auburn Central High School and attended Skidmore College in New York, Hamilton Junior College in Lexington, Ky., and the University of Kentucky. She was married on April 26, 1930, to John H. Slagle of Ashland, Ky.

Doris lived most of her life in upstate New York. She was involved in many activities including the Girl Scouts, Garden Clubs, hospital auxiliary, and Civic Music. She was a life time member of the Presbyterian Church. She lived in Conroe, Texas, for 18 years prior to moving to Albert Lea.

Doris is survived by two daughters: Nancy Slagle Hockenberry (husband, Jack) of Albert Lea, and Susan Slagle Young (husband, Thomas) of Conroe, Texas; one son, Charles Peter Slagle of Canandaigua, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, an infant sister, and infant grandson.

She was cremated and the internment will be at the family’s convenience in Newark, N.Y.

A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Conroe, Texas, at a later date.
