Hanson reclaims women’s crown

Virginia Hanson isn’t quite ready for the retirement home yet.
She’s still quite at home on a golf course.
Hanson, who says she’s &uot;Pushing 70,&uot; won her ninth ladies title in the Albert Lea City Open Golf Tournament that concluded Sunday at Green Lea Golf Course.
&uot;I told the girls I’m dedicating this to the seniors,&uot; said Hanson. &uot;I’m pushing 70, and enjoying every minute of it too.&uot;
While it was the ninth City Open title for Hanson it was her first since 1999, when she won it for the third time in a row. She totaled 176 strokes for 36 holes, 18 Saturday at Albert Lea Golf Club and 18 Sunday at Green Lea, to win by three strokes.
Vonda Rocklin and Marti Andersen, the 2000 champ, both had 179. Rocklin finished second.
Mindy Nelson and Jane Hanson, last year’s champion, tied for fourth at 180.
Also playing in the championship flight were Gerry Vogt, Lisa Prihoda and Laura Rofshus.
Donna Werner won the ladies’ first flight low gross title at 210. The low net honors for the first flight went to Debra Linnes at 144.
