Harold James Sandvig, 75, Hackensack

Harold James Sandvig, 75, of Hackensack, Minn., and Sun Lake, Ariz., died Thursday at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Park Rapids, Minn.

Harold was born June 6, 1927 in Bismarck, N.D. the son of Henry and Ruth Sandvig. He grew up and attended school in Albert Lea. Following high school he served in the Merchant Marines for two years. He then began his college education at North Dakota State University before transferring to Iowa State where he graduated in 1951, with a degree in chemical engineering. As a plant superintendent for Cargill, Inc., Hank had the opportunity to build processing facilities in Europe and South America, as well as the United States. After retirement he enjoyed golf, fishing and spending time with his family. He was a member of Sun Lakes United Methodist Church in Sun Lakes, Ariz.

He is survived by his wife Betty of Hackensack, Minn., two sons Mark Sandvig (Lori) of Edina, Minn., Todd Sandvig of Toledo, Ohio., one daughter Jane Goven (Greg) of Eden Prairie, Minn., and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial preferred to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Minnesota, 5217 Wayzata Blvd., St. Louis Park, MN. 55416.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Union Congregational Church in Hackensack, Minn., with Rev. Michael Small officiating. Thomas-Dennis Funeral Home of Walker, Minn. is handling funeral arrangements.
