One pleads guilty in delivery driver attack

An Albert Lea man, who was caught by police in connection with an assault on a pizza delivery driver, pleaded guilty of aiding and abetting the robbery.

Jason Michael Sokolofsky, 18, of 314 Euclid Ave., entered the plea to admit the charge in district court.

According to the criminal complaint, Sokolofsky drove a car to a spot near 106 West 11th St. in Albert Lea late on the night on May 20, where the assault took place. Juan Miguel Sanchez, 18, of 713 Jefferson Ave. and two juveniles from his car allegedly attacked the Domino’s Pizza delivery person, Nicholas Joseph Nesse, with an ax handle and robbed him of $16.10 and a pizza.

The group allegedly ordered the pizza from a pay phone at a gas station on South Broadway in an attempt to ambush the delivery driver.

Nesse was injured on the right side of his head, temple and left eye, and was airlifted to a hospital in Rochester for a treatment. The complaint says that the assault inflicted a skull fracture and partial peripheral vision loss in Nesse’s left eye.
