Dr. Marcus A. Keil, age 86, of Bloomington, Minn., died peacefully on Friday, Sept. 6, 2002, with family members at his side.

Following two years at Waldorf College. Forest City. Iowa, he received his baccalaureate and medical degrees from the University of Iowa in 1940. After a year of medical internship at Charles Miller Hospital in St. Paul, be served his country in the U.S. Army from 1941-1945.

After qualifying for membership in the American Society of Internal Medicine, he spent most of his professional life in Albert Lea. He was respected by his peers and community members. Because of his medical expertise, he received referrals from physician colleagues all over southern Minnesota and was often called “the doctor’s doctor.”

He was active in professional organizations including the American Heart Association, American Society of Internal Medicine, and the Freeborn County Medical Society. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Kiwanis and Elks Clubs in Albert Lea.

With his boundless energy and interests, he found time for woodworking, photography, stained glass, gardening, and hunting, fishing and camping. He loved to share his work and gave many handmade gifts to friends, relatives and colleagues.

He was preceded in death by parents: Amanda and Adolph Keil; brothers: Palmer and James; and sister, Dolores.

Survivors include Mary, his wife of 60 years; brother, Ellsworth (Maureen) of Denver, Colo.; daughter, Mary Ellen Brekke of St. Paul; son, Marcus John Keil of Nevada City, Calif.; granddaughters: Karin (Christopher) Olson of Richfield, and Kristine (Pas) Valdivia; and great-grandchildren: Annika Olson and Isabel, Grace and Chuy Valdivia.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at the Minnesota Masonic Home Chapel, 11501 Masonic Home Drive. Bloomington. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be Sept. 14 at Mt. Sterling Lutheran Church Cemetery, Mt. Sterling, Wis.

Memorials are preferred.
