WINONA &045; Despite controlling the action most of the game, it looked like the Albert Lea High School girls’ soccer team was headed for overtime at Winona.

The Tigers scored just in time.

With 1:50 remaining in regulation, Stacie Armstrong netted the only goal of the day and the Tigers claimed a 1-0 Big Nine victory Saturday.

&uot;The girls played well at midfield,&uot; said Tigers coach Todd Lange. &uot;We just didn’t pick things up on the offensive end until the end there.&uot;

Albert Lea improved its record to 3-1-2 in the conference and 4-2-2 for the season.

According to Lange, midfielders Brie Woitas, Sydney Staloch, Jerri Mondeel and Amy Ravenhorst all did a good job passing the ball while Steph Overgaard led the defense. Liz Reynen got her second shutout in goal.

Laura Hillman assisted on the goal, sending a crossing pass to Armstrong directly in front of the net. Armstrong’s momentum carried her and the ball over the goal line.

Albert Lea outshot Winona 14-7.

&uot;It was a battle mostly in the midfield,&uot; said Lange. &uot;We got some shots off, but not very effective shots until the end.&uot;
